Ready for Routine

Now that the holidays are over, I’m ready for routine again.  The boys really need their routine too, so I look forward to more regular sleep and daily schedules.  They are cute and wonderful, but can get crabby and lose their listening skills with too much excitement.

We spent the weekend removing the holidays clutter and I have scheduled for a donation pick up for next week.  We are 3 months into cold and flu season lock down and I’ve officially hit that place where I hate my surroundings.  Hopefully the cleaner version will sit a little better, because we still have another 3+ months of being closed in the house.

I don’t want to make the isolation sound too horrible.  I just have to make sure I find ways to break out of the house on occasion.  We have Kyle’s and Kellen’s birthdays this month and mine next month, so that does give us reason to get out and days to look forward.

One way we’ll be keeping busy, and getting us outside, is Kyle and I have signed up for Goldy’s Run, a 5K in April that benefits the U of MN Amplatz Children’s Hospital.  We are not runners, or even in shape, but if Owen can overcome all that he’s overcome, we can figure out how to run 3.1 miles.  They also have a 1/2 mile Goldy’s Gallop that Kellen will participate in – he’s so excited to be able to run on the Gopher Stadium field, where the race ends.  If you’re in Minnesota and want to participate in Goldy’s run, let me know.  I signed us up under the team name Ain’t No Roller Coaster, you’re welcome to run under that name or individually.  Maybe we can get some t-shirts made to help raise awareness for preemies while we’re running.  I will create a private Facebook group so we can help motivate each other too.

Here are some pics from the weekend.  Kellen was invited to a school friend’s birthday party on Sunday, so that’s what the sledding pictures are.  I don’t put pictures of other families without their permission, but thought the one was okay since they are so bundled up you can’t see any faces.

Owen and one of his NICU doctors. She and Owen know the true meaning of long nights together – she was the primary during his sickest days.

Kellen got to open his birthday present from Grandpa Corky and Grandma Cheryl this weekend. The tool bench is a hit with both boys.

Kellen was upstairs for a while on his own and he came down dressed for the day. I wish I'd gotten the bottoms too - he mesh shorts on with his backward top. Looks handsome to me.

Is there anything cuter than small kids trying to walk when they are bundled in their snow suits?

  1. Hi Tatum, We have cabin fever here too! Chad, my brother and I are planning on joining your 5k team. I also hear ya on the holiday craziness and the kids being naughty. We are finally getting back to our routine and it feels nice. See you Wednesday at the PAB meeting and drinks after.
